We had a nice telephone conversation with one of our sons this week.

It was a quick one since he is very busy setting his reserve unit on the Golan Heights.

But it was nice to hear his voice.

After we hung we said to our wife, ‘Thank G0d for CentraCom.’

Just how we got to that statement is the reason for this column.

For well over half a year we noticed a significant degradation in our phone service from Frontier Telephone.

First it was annoying then it became really annoying.

Calls would not go through. We would dial the number and get dead air. We complained and complained but the only call we received from Frontier was a sales pitch to switch our internet and a survey on how we would rate the corporation. Guess how we answered.

We also found out that it was just us. We did cheap fast little survey and discovered that everyone still on Frontier had the same problems.

The only thing keeping us with Frontier was that we believed our phone number. We have had it for about 25 years and were not inclined to change.

Finally things got so bad we made the decision to switch to digital phone service from CentraCom even if it meant giving up our number. What good is a number, we reasoned, if we could not call out and no one could call in?

The second worst thing about the past situation was that often when someone called they would get ring, and another ring, and lots of other rings. We didn’t hear them but for the people on the other side of line we must have looked like jerks.

We don’t need help in looking like a jerk.

So we called CentraCom to make the switch and wonder of wonders we got to keep our number. That is not even the best part. Our phones actually work now. When we make a call it rings on the first try!!! No more redialing and redialing and redialing until once we finally get through we forgot what we were calling about.

We have been with CentraCom for a month now and it is a dream, kind of like being in a first world country.

Which brings us to the very worst thing about Frontier phone service.

We could not connect with our kids!!!!

With three in Israel we have a special phone service where we dial an 800 number to get an outside line.

For the month before we went with CentraCom, it took us ten tries just to get to the 800 number. Since we made the switch one time is the charm.

We really don’t know why Frontier phone service sucked. Frankly we don’t care anymore.

Our phones work with CentraCom, we have the same number and it is even cheaper.

And when you have three kids and two grand kids overseas in a war all we can say and say again: ‘Thank G0d for CentraCom!!!’
