WREC4
WREC and 440 close friends gathered together to discus energy efficiency and their Electric Cooperative, support local students and share a meal. Wendover High capped Wells Rural Electric Company’s (WREC) 2014 Community Rallies in high fashion on Monday night with a lasagna dinner in the high school’s multipurpose room.  After all, when the Wildcat is dancing and the signs are shaking in front of Wendover High, a good time awaits inside.

Your Electric Cooperative hosted the event to talk with owners about their electricity usage, promote programs like the Next Dollar Foundation and the account management app SmartHub, and help owners find the best possible solution for their energy-related needs. Owners who follow WREC on Facebook or Twitter, use the SmartHub app or contribute to the Next Dollar Foundation received a Wildcat insulated tumbler.

“It’s a great thing,” said Wendover High principal Clint Spindler. “It’s tough for kids to raise money for their activities and their events. We greatly appreciate the fact that we’ve been invited to participate and we thank Wells Rural Electric for thinking of us here at Wendover High.”

Vocational students participating in FCCLA (Future Career and Community Leaders of America) undertook the daunting task of preparing the food to feed the large crowd while numerous other student organizations got in on the action to make the event a huge success.

“The kids enjoy doing it and I think the community really likes the dinner as well,” Spindler said. “It’s a good fundraiser for the students. It really helps Wendover High.”

Wendover’s rally capped WREC’s four-event tour of the communities in its service territory. Along with similar events at Wells High, West Wendover High and Carlin High, the rallies combined to draw 2,551 owners, more than half the cooperative’s ownership, and raise thousands of dollars for student programs.
