City of Ely Council Meeting

We have a weak County Commission, who drag their feet and would rather pay someone to make the hard discussions.

The City of Ely has become bullies and throw out threats.

Victims of their actions are anyone living or traveling south of the Ely City limits and the dedicated fire departments volunteers.

I agree the County Commissioners have not responded or taken care of any business in a efficient timely manner. The City threatening the safety of the citizens of White Pine County is out of line.

Bruce Setterstrom mentioned the negotiating team from the county accepted the terms of paying $6,000 a month. Thanks Bruce, I had to listen to that meeting for the third time. The team only agreed to set a time and date for the city to meet with the county. This time and date was long coming and there should never have been a negotiating team that did not include them. I understand your frustration, but not your threats.

The letter Bruce started to read was recommendations for fire service consolidation. I read it and find it to be a possible solution. Honestly I was impressed.

This does affect all of us and if the city goes forward with the threat, all of our safety is at risk. I do not feel any volunteer of either department would stand and watch someone in need or watch a house burn. This is a threat that try’s to control everyone in the county.

I am glad Mike Coster came on strong enough to get 14 more days in to Bruce’s motion. Although I still do not like the threat.

Jennifer Lee’s statement was right on. This is not about the city and the county this is about the safety of its citizens.

Jolene Gardner’s statement “We need to hold our ground, the county always wins, they always get the money.” I do hope this is not a contest for power or money at the expense of lives!
