The construction  project of the road on Florence Way going to the new elementary school had a few hiccups, and for that is not yet opened. If we remember the notices, the date was to be August 31st. But since the bulk of the money for the project was allocated to the City of West Wendover by a Grant from the Nevada Department of Transportation, one of the requirements is that all the material used in the project needed to be made in the USA. The contractor for the road, Whiteaker, had ordered street lights not manufactured in the United States, so Fase II of the project came to a halt. Fase III, who is the school side of the project, with the road and sidewalk near the school, had not such restrictions, so their lights are up. After talking to Brice Kimber, at the City Public Works, we understand that it was not the city choosing of street lights made somewhere else, but when it came to their attention they had to make the contractor order new street lights, now made in the USA. Fase II of Florence Way sidewalk is also finished and the street is pretty much finished too, and beautifully at that, but it will still be closed to the public until the beginning to maybe middle of October, to avoid liabilities, until the street lights are up. They are due to arrive at the end of September.

The High Desert Advocate also talked to Elko County School District Superintendent Jeff Zander, about the Elementary school. The architect develops “a punch list”, and the contractor, here Ascent, needs to complete and check every thing on that punch list, before he can sign off the facility over to the School District. The superintendent also said “that it is well on its way”, and that “there will be an open house on October 11th”, and that he is hoping to have students moving to the school by Christmas”, but this will be depending on the contractor.
