The Spillman family is a Wendover family for more than sixty one years. Mike, Robert and Richard, the three brothers invested in the new “Grease Monkey” business are only three out of four brothers, and out of eleven children, with seven sisters, four still leaving in Wendover. Their parents arrived in Wendover in 1956, moving from Nebraska. The father worked at the potash plant and the mother besides raising with her husband eleven children, from which eight were born here in Wendover, also worked at the post office, and at the port of entry. All four brothers when younger, worked with Ray Crawford at his garage, and remember him foundly.

The three brothers decided to go into business about three years ago, said Mike. They bought the land a little over a year ago, from the old police station site, and cleared the concrete this past January 2017. They started construction with “Ascent” company, with the ground breaking this past March. The new business who opened a short month ago on August 28th, and they now are having they grand opening these three coming days of Thursday, Friday and Saturday with specials.

Mike and Robert said that they are planning on opening other businesses in the rest of the lot that they own, in the future, but didn’t tell which kind yet.

Breaking News: Wendover Juvenile Found and Rescued

Posted on 13 September 2017 by Howard Copelan

The railroad underpass were officer Pantelakis discovered the missing juvenile around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night.(photo credit High Desert Advocate)

This past Tuesday a 13 years old young man, going to the West Wendover middle school, was missing. The family alerted the local West Wendover police at around 5:45 p.m. of him not returning home. As a juvenile, we will withhold his name, but the family was frantic as they had a tragedy a few years back about an other juvenile very close to them. This young man was missing due to a seizure and a black out from it. Chief of Police Burdel Welsh told us that the police department, the Fire department and volunteers were on the look out for him, the whole evening, until he was discovered by officer Pantelakis, who found him after 9:00 p. m. along Florence way, between Mesa and Silver, under the railroad tracks. He was still having seizures, and was transported by ambulance then helicopter to Salt Lake City Primary Children’s Hospital. He was back in Wendover the next day, Wednesday.

Marriage Licenses For Wendover

Posted on 11 September 2017 by Howard Copelan

West Wendover Councilwoman Jasie Holm worked hard and patiently toward getting “Marriage Licenses” for her town.

Councilwoman Jasie Holm worked over a year behind the scenes to bring to West Wendover the most coveted “marriage Licenses”. For many years, may be more than twenty, West Wendover residents knew it would be a wonderful new venue to be able to offer to Utah and surroundings a possibility to come to Wendover, and get married. Las Vegas style marriage is very well known to appeal to many for the care free and fun way to get married. Elko County finally agreed to give the town of West Wendover the means to have marriage licenses. The couples wanting to get married will have to pay by credit card at the satellite Clerk’s office of West Wendover.

Last August 9, 2017 , the Unified Police Department personnel visited the West Wendover Police Department to present Division Commander Awards to the six West Wendover Police Officers. The six members of the West Wendover Police Department had received recognition of their efforts resulting in the apprehension of a suspect wanted from the Salt Lake City area for several felonious crimes. Unified Police Department personnel visited the West Wendover Police Department to present Division Commander Awards to the six West Wendover Police Officers.

On July 12, 2017, Detective Adamson and Detective Wilson developed information that robbery suspect, Thomas Riessen was in West Wendover. They responded to the area and contacted local law enforcement.

Lt. Leninger said that upon arrival, the detective met with Sgt. Hillaker, Sgt. Petro, Officer Turner, Officer Ramirez, Officer Love and Officer Pantelakis. Once Riessen’s location was determined the law enforcement team created a plan to safely and effectively take Rieseen into custody without exposing the public to any potential threats.

With Riessen in custody, Unified Police could clear six bank robberies and two Metro PCS cell phone store robberies. This includes four bank robberies in the Unified Police Department jurisdiction, one in Salt Lake City, one in Sandy and the two Metro PSC stores (one in Salt Lake City and the other in West Valley City).
