By Cathy Durham Even though the 2007-2008 basketball season is long gone and the spring sports are well underway, there is still much to be said about both the girls and boys basketball teams. History was made this season as scoring records were broken and double MVP honors were given to two of West Wolverine basketball standouts, Jared Lewis and Danika Sharp. Senior, Jared Lewis and Sophomore, Danika Sharp were both awarded the League MVP award for the 2A South Region at the division playoffs. The accolades do not stop there, both players were also awarded 1st Team All State recognition. Danika and Jared also broke several school and state records as well. Jared Lewis ended his high school career as the school’s all time leading scorer with 1571 points, all time assists leader with 328, and all time leader in steals with 242. Jared also holds the record for most points in a game with 49 against The Meadows and 36 in the first half. Jared had 10 three pointers in this game. Jared is also number 16th for the most points scored in a career in the state of Nevada. Jared was also named to the McDonalds All American team and is currently considering several different offers to play basketball at various colleges. Danika Sharp found her way in to the Nevada state record book as well in five different categories. Danika scored 653 points this season putting her in 4th place in the Nevada state high school record book for points scored in a single season. She worked her way into 2nd place in the record books in the categories of most free throws attempted in a single season with 209, just 4 shy of the first place holder. She is also second in most free throws made in a game with 17 just one shy of the state record and 2nd place in most steals in a season with 115. Danika is now the current record holder of most free throws made in a season with 153 beating the old record of 130. According to Max Preps a nationwide internet based web site sponsored by CBS Sports, Danika and Jared are among some of the nation’s best players. Now not all high schools keep track of their team stats and submit them to Max Preps but a large majority of them do. Based on the stats that have been submitted, Jared finished the season as the #2 player in the category of points and assists in the state, #1 in three pointers and #4 in steals. Jared was also listed 60th in the nation in the scoring catagory. Danika Sharp was listed 2nd in the state in scoring, 5th in 3 pointers and 6th in assists. Danika is listed as 32nd in scoring in the nation.
