story continues below Ely, Nev. – Wildlife in northern White Pine County’s Antelope MountainRange have a new source of water, thanks to the efforts of the Mule Deer Foundation, Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM). More than 30 volunteers from the Mule Deer Foundation’s Bristlecone Chapter joined NDOW and BLM Ely District staff for two days in July to install a wildlife guzzler in an area of the range where there was no water source previously. The system took two days to install and consists of a water collection apron that funnels precipitation through a hose buried underground to two water storage tanks located down slope. The partially-buried tanks can each hold up to 1,800 gallons of water and have built-in drinkers. A barbed wire fence surrounds the apron to protect it from damage. A pipe rail fence surrounds the tanks to safeguard the water for wildlife use. The Mule Deer Foundation paid for the guzzler. NDOW contributed the materials for the pipe rail fence. The BLM Ely District provided the equipment operator and backhoe, and barbed wire. story continues below
