A bad Monday for an Ely man just kept getting worse until he ended up in the hospital and later jail for stealing and then wrecking a truck.

According to White Pine county sheriff’s reports  Albert S. Hendrickson age 26 of Ely was first reported acting strangely at a down town Ely store.  Hendrickson according to the reporting party was crying and acting aggressive to the point where he had punched several Christmas decorations on display. Officers patrolled the area, but the Hendrickson was not located.

Several minutes later officers received a report of a stolen vehicle that had been parked at R. Place #1. The operator of the vehicle had left it running while he entered into the store to conduct business. Information was obtained that this was the same Hendrickson whom the officers were looking for earlier. Officers located the vehicle which was traveling on Great Basin Blvd. Officers initiated a pursuit which continued to the east side of Connors Summit. Hendrickson then turned around and headed back to the Ely area. Spike strips were deployed to stop the suspect. Hendrickson continued to evade police and while swerving around traffic near the KOA camp ground lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway which caused the vehicle to roll. Hendrickson was then apprehended.

Hendrickson was transported to E.R. By ambulance due to injuries he sustained in the accident He was later released from the hospital and transported to the White Pine County jail facility. He was charged with D.U.I. , grand larceny of a motor vehicle, evading, injury to property, driving revoked and obstructing a police officer. He is being held on $20,000 bail.
