The men’s 4×400 meter relay team also qualified for state, Miguel Soriano, William Martinez, Nate Flores, and Jorge “pork” Rodriguez. The West Wendover Wolverines have a state champion in Track & Field!! Adara Griffith broke the school record long jump on her way to becoming the first female state champion in Track & Field for West Wendover High School. Adara has worked extremely hard on her long jump putting in countless hours of hard work and determination. Adara set the tone for the long jump competition from the beginning. Her very first jump was an incredible 16 feet 5 inches. She never looked back, and that jump earned her a spot atop the podium. Tristen Valadez had himself an amazing meet as well. Tristen was able to overcome high winds, a lightning delay, and stiff competition. Tristen brought home a 3rd place medal. At the state meet Tristen threw his PR of 128 feet 1 inch. Tristen is also one of the best overall throwers to compete at West Wendover. Tristen has recorded the 2nd farthest discus throw in school history, and he has the third farthest shot put throw in school history. It is not common to see someone do so well in both of those events. The final medalist from the weekend was Miguel Soriano. Miguel competed in the 1 mile race. Which, when  watching Miguel race it needs to be called the 1 mile dash. Miguel finished 3rd and brought home a bronze medal. He ran the mile in an astonishing 4:44.0. Not only was this time good enough for 3rd place, this time earned Miguel a spot in the record books as the fastest mile runner in WWHS History.
