Three Nevada Highway Patrol officers from the Wells District received lifesaving medals from NHP Chief Troy Abney on Thursday, August 1, 2013.

The incident occurred on May 1st, 2013 in Wells, Nevada.  Mrs. Shonna Jarman, from Wells, Nevada, was having severe chest pains and called off duty Trooper Greg Monroe for assistance.  Trooper Monroe called Trooper Melvin Knudsen who was on duty, and asked him to respond as well.

Shortly after Trooper Monroe arrived at the residence, Mrs. Jarman lost consciousness.  Trooper Monroe began chest compressions and Trooper Knudsen arrived with a breathing apparatus.  They performed CPR.

annabookSergeant Tamrah Jackson, a neighbor of Mrs. Jarman, arrived at the residence with an automated external defibrillator (AED).  After setting up the defibrillator, two shocks were delivered to Mrs. Jarman.

After the shocks, Mrs. Jarman began breathing on her own.  The Wells Fire Department took over the primary care of Mrs. Jarman and she was flown via helicopter to the hospital.

Mrs. Jarman survived and thanked the Wells officers who saved her life.

During the awards ceremony, she personally pinned the lifesaving medals on the officer’s uniforms.
