The entire town of Baker was mobilized Monday for the search of 88 Jo Anne Garrett believed lost in the Great Basin National Park.

Garrett an environmentalist legend in Nevada disappeared from her home near the parks entrance Thursday and was reported missing by her daughter the next day.

“We are doing a grid search now,” said White Pine under sheriff Scott Henroid.

The search was hampered Saturday and Sunday by an early snow storm.

“It is hard to search in a snow storm,” Henroid said. “Plus we had to pull some men off of it to rescue a couple of stranded hunters who got caught in it.”

Garrett a 40 year resident of Baker has been on the forefront of virtually every environmental fight in Nevada for the last half century beginning with atomic testing in the 1960’s to nuclear waste in the 1970’s to 2000’s and ending with the Las Vegas Water Grab.
