Ely Mayor Jon Hickman was found dead in his home Wednesday evening by White Pine county deputies performing a welfare check.
According to the White Pine County Sheriff’s department, deputies were summoned to the Mayor’s residence by concerned friends who were worried when Hickman did not answer his phone or the door.
The mayor had severe health problems and was being treated for cancer.
Hickman was elected in 2011.
