Some 500 softball players coaches and fans descended on Wendover last weekend for the first ever Battle of the Sexes Tournament, hosted by the Nugget Casino.
“Our Tournament had 12 Men’s teams and 9 Women’s teams. The winning team for the Men were team Goon Squad and the winning team for the Women were team Hot Mess.” said event organizer Luciano “Lucky” Munoz. “Our first place prize for the men were bats and for the women were 12 custom shirts. The homerun derby champs were William Blue for the Men and Felicia Duran for the Women.
New to the tournament were three targets in the outfield that would receive a prize if they got hit. Hitting the target anywhere would win a free buffet for 2, if the bulls-eye on the target was hit then a bigger prize of a free steakhouse dinner for two is awarded.
Our next tournament will be the Wendover Nugget Freedom Tournament on the 4th of July Weekend. This will be a coed tournament with games being held on the 5th and 6th, we’re expecting an excellent turnout and there will be a free tournament with a BBQ at the park for the players. All teams attending the free BBQ/tournament must have either pre-registered, or will need to pay a $100 deposit/the registration fee to attend.”
