Once again Wendover casinos showed  modest increase in gaming win in April at 1.38 percent above last year but while small it was the fifth such in a row.

“Win” is a gross figure, with no operating costs or other expenses deducted. And it’s casino revenue only _ separate from hotel, restaurant or bar revenues generated by the resorts.

While win indicates a casino market’s profitability another statistic “play” is an indicator of how casino workers are fairing. With some casino workers dependent on tips for up to half of their total income, play, the amount of money wagered by gamblers is a good indicator of how much casino workers received in tips and how many gamblers are actually in the casino.

Slot win was up 1.9 percent to $11.1 million. Slot play was down 1.0  percent to $193.1 million. Slot hold increased from 5.58 percent in April 2014 to 5.74 percent this April.

wreccoolad (1)On the tables win was down 0.6 percent to $2.7 million. Play was up 5.3 percent to $13.7 million while hold fell from 20.91 percent to 19.73 percent.

Total gaming win for the balance of the county increased by 1.77 percent to $7.5 million.

Slot win was down 0.1 percent to $6.6 million. Slot play was down 5.5 percent to $99.9 million. Slot hold increased from 6.26 percent to 6.62 percent

Table win was up 18.9 percent to $800,000.

The state’s casinos won 5.4 percent more during the month than they did a year ago and slot machine revenue accounted for three-fourths of the $45.9 million increase.

Nevada’s Gaming Control Board reported the latest numbers Friday that showed the state’s casinos won $897.9 million overall from slots, table games and baccarat.

Centracom Graduates 2015The numbers had dropped in February and March, dragged down by the volatile swings in baccarat play, the table game that can mean a fortune or far less for casinos depending on luck.

“It didn’t hurt us this month,” said Gaming Control Board analyst Michael Lawton. The total amount bet on baccarat had been sliding, increasing just three times year-over-year in the last nine months including April when it was up 14.4 percent with gamblers wagering $742.1 million total.

Normally overshadowed by baccarat swings, “slots just keep doing its thing,” Lawton said.
