IMG_20151013_183016 (1)West Wendover Wolverine Sarah Isaacs captured the state golf crown Tuesday in a come from behind victory at the White Pine County Golf Course.

The 15 year old sophomore in a display of maturity well beyond her years kept her head and her composure while becoming the youngest state champ in over a dozen years.

Isaac’s started the day trailing tournament favorite Kennedy Cohn by one stroke. And well into the first nine holes with Sarah long game giving her trouble it appeared the Cohn would seize the day. Finally on the 10th hole Isaacs chucked her drive and went with her 3 wood and made her charge. She finished the day with an 188. Cohn came in 2nd with a 190.

wrec1015“It’s been hours, yet it feels like minutes after the tournament. I remember a lot of it, especially the fun times I had with everyone there. All the shots counted and the putts were made. I wanted to be the state champion when I entered that course, I wanted the team to be successful and come out strong. And we did,” said Isaacs. “We worked at it and worked the past two months and we made it. We didn’t get first, but second isn’t that bad. Our team is young, no seniors. Every girl played a part in this season and it does count, it does matter. When I won first place I was surprised, I didn’t play my best but I still kept my head high. I was proud and happy for what we had accomplished. I was proud and happy to be the state champion, that’s what many golf girls want during this season. Thank you everyone who has helped and supported me. Thanks to you Mike Propp and everyone at the golf course for the help I needed when I was there. Thanks to my teammates who gave me the motivation for being there to play. And to my coach, Jennifer Lopez. She was there to push us and give us those pep talks when we needed them the most. My parents who have always supported me along the way. My mom, being there when I needed her and my dad for putting me on the green ever since I could walk and teaching me to swing my first club. I’m honored to be the III/IV State Champion in Nevada and I thank you all that have helped me.”

wenutrally“I am absolutely ecstatic for Sarah. Her indisputable devotion for the game is inspirational. She truly loves the sport and continues to improve her score. Sarah encourages her teammates and is a joy to be around,” said Coach Jennifer Lopez. “The first and second day of Sate she scored a 94. Her total for the Ely tournament was a 188. This score helped her become the III/IV State Champion in Nevada. She also, helped the Lady Wolverines take home a second place team win.  Other players that contributed to the second place win were Shelby Hanson (246), Sara Vera (252), and Sydney Boatman (232). Also, Mayra Vite (322) and Ashtin Bell (326) were a great support to the team. I know the girls are excited and can’t wait for next year’s season. I am very proud of all of them and the hard work they put into this season.
