The Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital volunteers to the free clinic were here again in Wendover, this past Wednesday, April 24th.,giving their time and efforts. Over the years, for such a small community as Wendover (Wendover Utah and West Wendover Nevada), they helped up 6 children. And this Wednesday, they saw 2 more children and are expecting one more to get involved. These children will have their life improved by getting free services and free ongoing care.

Carl Fauver sits on the Hospital Board of Directors, his wife Edie Fauver, is the Recorder/Secretary for the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine of Salt Lake City. Bill Broyles is a past State Potentate(elected for a year) at the top head administration of Utah, his wife Janice Broyles is also part of the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine (L.O.S.). Richard Johnson is a member of the Clown Unit (parades, cheers to patients, etc…) and part of the mini bikes. Mike Katsonis is our retired pharmacist and our own Shriner from Wendover.

Here it is how Shriners works:

The Shriners volunteers see the families and recommend they go in to the hospital. They refer them to see the doctors at Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah for everything orthopedics, cleft foot, etc… up to the age of 18 years. They also treat Scoliosis in Salt Lake City.

For burns,  or spinal problems, they are refered to Sacramento, California.

And for cleft lips and palates they are refered to Chicago, Illinois and to Spokane, Washington State.

The hospital treats all children regardless of their ability to pay. Also Shriners provide apartments for the family of the patient, and if the apartments are full, they contracted with Ronald McDonald housing. So it is free for the famiy of the child. If they need transportation to the hospital, Shriners can help with that too.
