One month after he escaped handcuffed from a police car Abraham ‘Trucker” Morales is in the Elko County Jail pending a hearing on his parole violation.

Morales was arrested around 4:30 am Monday June 4, when they arrived to break up a fight at a local bar that he was not involved in and that was no longer going on. According to the police department press release Morales only obvious infraction was yelling them.
Morales was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car for transport. Officers were then alerted to another fight at the same bar. As police investigated the second fight, Morales freed himself from the police vehicle and fled the scene while still handcuffed.
Morales’ month on the lam prompted a flurry of comments ranging from cheers to jeers on the High Desert Advocate’s website www.coyote-tv.
Virtually a life long resident of Wendover Morales, 24, began to get in trouble with police almost from the time he entered puberty.
While his supporters claim Morales was being picked on by cops his detractors rightfully point out that the young man had been convicted of a whole variety of crimes and thus was by the time he turned 24 a hardened criminal.
The truth however is perhaps somewhere in between, as illustrated by perhaps the most poignant comment from Shane Greenland, Morales’ high school football coach:
“Trucker is a young man that has made some poor choices in his life. Does this make him a bad kid. No, I had the opportunity to coach this young man in both football and baseball. He was always very respectful and did what was asked of him. We must always remember that all kids are good they just make poor decisions from time to time. I am sure if Trucker would not have reacted to this situation, the outcome may have been different. I don’t condone the actions or choices he has made in this situation and my advice to him would be to turn himself in so that he may get on with his life. He has made one poor decision, don’t let it lead to many more. I know in my heart that one day, he will be a great father, friend and community member. Please help Trucker make the right decisions in life and move forward so that he may move on. You are losing this game right now, time is one thing you will never get back. I wish you the best.”

It’s been a long time since Greenland coached him. People do change. I know alot of people from Wendover that had very promising futures, until they threw it away. Hopefully the give some time and hopefully he decides to clean up his life. It’s been said before to stay of the cop radar don’t get into trouble. With the whole Abraham thing out of the way something does need to be done about the drug problem there, and the community needs to band together to get rid of it.
