Some 50 starving and ill Chihuahua dogs and puppies were rescued last week from a mobile puppy mill in Wendover.
“I received a call from friend Noe Lopez that we where needed a the R Place Truck stop that there was a older couple in need of food and would like him to buy them some food for some puppies. We rushed over there to find the most horrifying sight I have ever seen and if God is permitting I never will again.
There were what looked like to be 50-60 dogs some dying and two new born dead. The car was packed with older dogs as well as younger ones and the smell I don’t think I could even describe it. They sat in dog crap dog pee and dead puppies,” said Wendover rescuer Carolyn Neeley. “It was so overwhelming that we had to call animal control and Gary Bean from the Utah side showed up. At this time I was holding a darling little angel and I had to put her down to help him put dogs in a carrier. I had no clue he had told the Police Department he needed no help. I thought they would be charged, but instead he helped them clean there car so the next day they where able to get the nine dogs in the shelter, two are due to have babies. I am totally horrified by the life of those puppies due to the animal control officer inadequacy to do his job!!!”
“I received a phone call about 49 dogs in a car in deplorable conditions. I came down and August 26, 2013 to bring them back to Payson where I run my rescue. I arrived to find a litter of puppies not all from the same mother dogs, in conditions that are very unhealthy and unsuitable. I also took a pregnant mother dog who is a bit apprehensive and nippy,” wrote Tayler Smith of the Bully Chic Animal Rescue in Salt Lake City. “On further examination of the animals , the puppies had bloody stools and were eating each others fecal matter after alleviating themselves. They are very skittish and not used to people. The puppies have never even seen or felt grass until we put them on it.
“The vet said that due to their living conditions prior, they will need to wait about 3-4 days to see if it’s more then just dirty living that has made them sick. They were not even use to eating puppy or dog food until we distributed some to all the puppies and mama dogs.
The people who had these dogs should be ashamed of themselves, this is animal abuse first hand. These dogs were being breed with their brothers and sisters. I personally believe they should not ever be able to own any more dogs again!”
Coincidentally the West Wendover City Council is in the final stages of passing an ordinance requiring licensing and registration of dog and cat breeding.
Ground work new ordinance, said City Clerk Anna Bartlome, was laid in the recent session of the Nevada Legislature after public outrage rose over news reports of unsanitary and unregulated puppy mills surfaced last year.
are these the dogs? they look pretty healthy to me.. also I would be curious to know how you know they were being bred sister to brother.. etc?? also how you know they have never been on grass? am happy to know they are in good shape now.. or appear to be..
It’s hard to imagine a starving female could produce so many fat, healthy looking puppies.
This is not a puppy mill, this is a case of people living i their car with their own animals. Your concern that they should be punished for being poor is an example of the extreme nature of the animal rights cults that abound in western culture. Shame on you and congrats to the people who know how to help others as God has asked. You should be ashamed of your self for trying to misrepresent the officer in charge and this elderly couple who are so poor that they live in their car. Animal rights cults want to end all companionship animals and are more concerned with killing them than finding them homes or helping out people in need. If there was so much poop why does it not show in your pictures. I see nothing on the dogs or the puppies and I don’t see any proof of large numbers of dogs. Lies again from an AR cult member to get you to part with your money. These people say the same things over and over again about never being on grass, breeding brother to sister lies and poop everywhere. They want you to be irrational about your response to the poor. Its time to stop these terrorists who have ruined people’s reputations and lives. Did you know that PeTA kills 98% of all animals that are turned over to them!
To the stupid people who comment on this story with no clue about what they are talking about I was there I held a dying dog in my arms so sick she couldn’t even drink water and the smell was of death. I would of really liked you to of been there to see first hand the horror and maybe the puppy they threw in the trash in Wells NV may feel a little different than you do or the 35 dogs they left in a RV to die so please comment on what you know not on what you don’t and the reason for the dogs on this page looking so healty is because of my daughter and her rescue in Payson Ut and the Craythorns
Well it is evident that stupidity is a live in well in Wendover Mr. Howard Houston as far as the old people go they put those puppies in that car not the other way around so if that are that old and do not know any better they have places for that, and get your fact in a row before you speck or maybe it would be ok if an old person runs over one of your kids if you even have any and someone tells you oh there just old and it’s not there fault. what would you call it if you found 49 alive dying dogs in a two door small car!!!
In the pictures they “look” healthy but dehydration and a lot of the problems they had won’t really affect their appearance. These pictures were not taken right when we got them this was after they were bathed and fed and rehydrated. Also when we rescued the dogs we were not thinking about pictures right away we were more concerned with their health. If you believe they were healthy please explain to me why they are racking up vet bills that we are paying for with our own money. If they are so healthy then why was there several malnourished adults and puppies, one 15 year old dog who is almost completely blind with one tooth and three cists, several very skittish dogs and a few very aggressive dogs that may have to be put down because they are that aggressive. If the 15 year old dog had the proper medical treatment before she would be able to see more than shadows, her arthritis would not be as bad and if they had given her the proper oral hygiene she would still have more teeth. Not to mention one of the dogs is dangerously underweight. I will end right here before my anger gets the best of me due to the post made by Howrd Houston.
I am the one that groomed about 24 of them. Every single one had overgrown nails, the older dogs being the worst. Two dogs were defecating blood, and multiple dogs had cysts. Many of the puppies appeared to be wormy, and adults are underweight. Two adults who came through me to be groomed acted as if they were abused, one having multiple scars on his face, the other being aggressive. These are not the conditions you would find in healthy, loved dogs.
I wouldve loved to see what most of you would’ve done if u were there most would freak out and a lot of ppl don’t have the paitence to take care of all these animals it is a huge job all on its own its amazing how some of u think that we are just takeing dogs from “homeless” ppl well u know what if ur homeless with that many dogs u need to surrender some or all of them to a shelter I was homeless before but I would feed my dogs before myself I would starve for a week if I had to everytime I see the oldest dog out of all of them it breaks my heart she’s blinf no teeth has arthritis and when she walk she tilts a lot she’s a lot happier now that we have her I will take her outside and she dosnt want to go back inside me and my family will take care of her till she’s ready to pass but seeing her like this makes me so angry that I couldn’t do anything more to save the other 9 dogs that they got back this past week I have had 15 hours of sleep we spent almost all night last week to find these ppl so u all can keep thinking that we are doing the wrong thing all u want I know that god has sent all these animals this way for a reason ……btw I’m one of the ppl who helped save these animales
I too have some involvement here with Carolyn, Noe, and Jordan. We call on eachother when there are animals in abusive and neglectful situations. I am a veterinary assistant as well, so in some situations, I get someone banging on my door crying for my help. There is only so much I can do, but every little bit makes a huge difference. Carolyn is not one to blow things out of proportion. So, Mr Houston and Mr Williams, neither of you have any room at all to say anything when you are completely and utterly clueless and ignorant to the facts. And furthermore, as I understand it, enough evidence has been gathered by witnesses as well as the mounting veterinary bills for these dogs that the City and/or county is intending to charge this couple criminally. There is No Excuse for what has happened to these dogs. This was not just a matter of a homeless couple with their 2 or 3 beloved pets. Dead and dying dogs were in this compact 2 door car, nearly 50 of them. There were barely living dogs piled on dead dogs. So, if you still feel like this is all acceptable, just go on your merry way and keep your ignorance to yourself. They say ignorance is bliss, but that’s only if you don’t flaunt it!!
Doug Williams-Howard Houston-Maggie B just so you are up to date the little white baby in the crate with the mommy that you said looked so healthy passed away on 09/07/2013 her name was Hope I have spent $1153.00 trying to save these puppies and would spend tons more if they needed it. On 09/02/2013 Miracle the littlest brown puppy passed away and my heart is just broken with thoughts of if I only knew sooner and the the two mommas they got away with. I just wish that instead of ppl being so negative why can’t you help save these dogs. Because to you they are only dogs to me they are family members waiting to find there forever family. So for as long as I live and breath along with the good ppl of Wendover Craythorns-April Workman-Noe Lopez and his Family-Jordan-and all of the new pet parents of these babies we will forever love them and continue to do what we do.
And most of all to my wonderful and beautiful daughter whom puts her heart and soul into all of this and runs a non-profit rescue if I could go to heaven and chose my daughter I would of chosen you all over again I love you too much.
