We really don’t mind the incredible effort spent in the past five years on behalf of the probable deserter Bowe Bergdahl.

What else was the United States government supposed to do?

While evidence that Bowe Bergdahl was captured while doing his duty as a soldier and not leaving his post was extremely slim it was substantial enough to merit the herculean effort to free him.

We also will accept the fact that the freeing of five mass murderers was necessary for his release. It is a bitter pill to swallow but we will swallow it.

The fact that six other American soldiers may have died in the attempt to locate Bowe Bergdahl is beyond question the second worst part of this story, but also something we have to accept.

But why the Rose Garden press reception by the President of the United States for the deserters parents?

We can think of only two explanations the first being that it was a condition laid down by the Taliban for his release.

Sure it stretches the imagination to the breaking point. Under threats from the enemy our Commander in Chief agreed to host and hug the parents of a man, who the Pentagon not only suspects of desertion in a time of war but also of aiding the enemy, in the White House Rose Garden.

Yet we would rather believe that than the president and his staff are so morally blind, so free from shame that they simply do not get it?

We can’t accept that the public hugging of the Bergdahl’s was a cynical photo op gone wrong.

It is not like the president or his staff was unaware of the very serious allegations against their son or the seditious posts the father recently made on twitter.

This was not a case of being surprised by facts rather than it was of not recognizing them or their immorality.

The feting of the Bergdahl’s unfortunately is not an isolated incident. In fact it is par for the course. Time and time again this administration has astounded both this country’s enemies and allies by its ethical deafness.

Even the argument that America is merely looking out for its own best interests when this country has betrayed friends and rewarded enemies, falls flat when it America’s interests that have suffered the most in the last five years.

For the first couple of years we ascribed it to simple naiveté and maybe a little bit of hubris befitting one anointed as the Messiah.

But this very small, little thing speaks volumes and is thunderous.

We are being governed by a president aided by a staff who do not know right from wrong.

That is not to say they are stupid or evil themselves.

Unfortunately people who a morally bereft can’t get better.

At 53, it is too late for Barack Obama to grow a conscience.

And with three years left in his presidency we can only hope that the damage he does in the future will be kept to a minimum.

The only upside to being distrusted is that after a bit no one makes the mistake of taking him at his word.
