Blue Jay Fire 8.5.2015

 

Ely, Nev. – The 657-acre Blue Jay Fire, located in priority sage grouse habitat about eight miles southeast of the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, was declared 100-percent contained on Saturday, Aug. 8.  The lightning-ignited fire was first reported Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The fire consumed pinion-pine, juniper, sagebrush and grasses.  There was no threat to private property.

elkofairThe Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District utilized ground and aerial resources to fully suppress the fire.  The BLM was assisted by the City of Ely, White Pine County, Nevada Division of Forestry, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Forest Service and private contractors.
