Additional charges were filed against a babysitter after she was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of child abuse or neglect.

Stacey Lupercio, 27, of Elko was arrested on charges of child abuse or neglect, and three counts of drug paraphernalia. She reportedly had been watching the child for seven hours Sunday night.

The babysitter was arrested early Monday morning after the baby she had been watching was taken to the hospital with symptoms of drug use.

The 9-month-old’s mother took the child to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital shortly after midnight because of “unusual symptoms,” said Lt. Mike Palhegyi of the Elko Police Department. The baby tested positive for drugs including opiates, he said.

The babysitter was then found smoking heroin in the hospital’s parking lot, Palhegyi said.

Palhegyi said smoking illicit substances in the presence of children exposes them to the effects of those substances.

Lupercio’s bail listed now at $151,920.
