Under the direction of Airport Manager Lance Gale, Noah Walker made the lettering for the big hangar at the airport. The NDF prepared and painted the building and then applied the letters. Great job to all. (photo credit Geri Wopshall for the High Desert Advocate)

Vendors

A report was given on the band that was to play Thursday and Friday night as being Jerry and the Dream Banders. This group is quite popular and does have all of their own sound equipment.

Hats and shirts have been taken care of and the location for their Booth will be close to electricity so they can personalize any shirts or hats.

Food vendors are prepared and in contact with the food provider and are getting all their licenses and permits.

The alcohol vendors also are prepared and are obtaining their licenses and permits as they will be needed 5 days before the event.

Vendors we’re also told do not have excess volunteers with them, there were not enough vest and the whole audience can’t be volunteers

Volunteers –

The green vest have arrived for all the volunteers to wear.

There will be a volunteer clean-up day on June 2nd, 9:00 am.

There were 10 volunteers signed and 4 or more promised.

The pylon judges training will be June 11th at 11, so far there are 14 judges.

There’s still a big need for security volunteers. You may sign up for any volunteer job at www. j u s t s e r v e.org. security volunteer we’ll meet at 7 a.m. every morning of the event

All volunteer training will be held at the convention center on June 6th at 7 p.m.

There is still a little confusion between airboss and announcer. There will be further discussions with outside entities to clear up the matter.

Photography-

Joe made a proposal to do the photography at the cost of $2,250 and this was to cover his expense during the event. He would be writing a publication with the photographs in several magazines. All pictures would remain the property of White Pine County.

CAF is a group that refurbishes old airplanes. They would like to bring an l19 World War II bird dog plane. They also would like to bring another B-17. They are asking the committee to cover their costs of travel and time in Ely in the amount of $4,900. CAF  is also looking for a place in Nevada to set up a new unit

( I feel that these two cost would be well worth it, because we are not only planning for this year’s event, but this event will determine what next year’s event will be like. The more you can get people to talk about this year’s event the better next year will be. I feel the old airplanes coming here would get a lot of oohs and aahs. When people returned home they will talk about these two planes.)

New Information from Lance Gale –

By the way Mike Biehn will be our airboss and announcer we are looking forward to this event    It would help it folks would go online and purchase tickets for this historical event   Again we will be the 2nd only place in the United States ( Reno ) that you can see Air Races. It truly is a special opportunity for anyone to see this.   This past Sunday May 20th, the 2017 Reno Air Races were on NBC , so you could see what is coming to Ely June 13-16 .
