In 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day which extends throughout the week. This week is special, it recognizes those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

A Memorial Service began in 1982 at a gathering in Senate Park with survivors of family members who had lost a loved one in the line of duty along with supports of law enforcement. Decades later the event continues and has spread throughout the Nation in which each State recognizing those officers who gave their all. In 1998 the Nevada law Enforcement Officers Memorial was dedicated, present was then Governor Bob Miller, hundreds of state dignitary’s and law enforcement officers from around the nation attended the ceremony. This last week was a time to remember those officers who sacrificed all they had, but it is also a time to give thanks to those who still protect our communities. I am truly grateful for the men and women who work for the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office, along with those who serve our country whatever state or jurisdiction they serve in. The White Pine County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank those that sent cards of appreciation, gave kind words and thoughts, and dropped off goodies.  We truly appreciate your support and will do or very best to provide a safe community for our citizens to live, work and enjoy.
